Subnational executive formula and the role of Vicegovernorship in Argentina. Neuquén, Río Negro and Chubut provinces (2015-2018)
Abstract
The goal of this work is to characterize the provincial Vicegovernorship and its role in the sub-national executive formula in Argentina through the study of three cases. The analytical tools developed for the study of the presidential formula and the role of the vice-presidency are extrapolated to the approach of similar institutions at the sub-national level. Our study attemps at the identification of trends regarding the impact of the normative and political factors of the Vicegovernmental institution at both the electoral and governmental settings. In addition attention will be paid to the succession process in the three selected cases as well the political potential therein of the Vice-Governor, when political agreements among political forces tend to be labile or instable . Our discussion is intended to fill a vacuum in current literature.
