  • Soledad Nión Celio, SNC Department of Sociology Faculty of Social Sciences University of the Republic

Abstract

This article focuses on the social construction of risk in the production of soybean in Uruguay, based on the perception of several social actors. Soybean production is approached as an example of the changes that agricultural production has undergone in recent decades. Firstly, the article presents the productive context of the current model of soybean production, to subsequently discuss the social construction of risk according to the discourse of the actors mapped through a qualitative research strategy. Finally, the article proposes the discussion on their role in risk and environmental policies, the type of legitimated knowledge and some modulators of the perception of these actors, such as controllability or voluntariness in relation to risks.
