People’s economy in the Buenos Aires Conurban Area: what is it about?
Abstract
The article focuses on the occupational insertions of workers in so called people’s economy of the Buenos Aires Conurban area. Information from primary sources is presented, produced in the framework of an investigation that aims to analyze the strategies of social reproduction of the households of the popular economy that live in neighborhoods that were accessed outside the formal real estate market. It is proposed to advance in the analysis of the information produced to contribute to the knowledge of working conditions in the popular world. A reflection is presented on the limits of the taxonomic systems about the job occupations of workers; subsequently we focus on the labor structure in 14 popular neighborhoods of the Conurban Area. Our main conclusion states that territorial settings display persistent relevance in order to understand the strategies of reproduction in people´s economy.
