UCR at the crossroads: between two government coalitions in the Santa Fe province
Abstract
In this work we address the coalitional strategy adopted
by the UCR (Radical Civic Union) in the Santa Fe
province with facing the 2019 electoral process. This is
a peculiar case because the party was simultaneously
part of/involved with two different and antagonistic
government coalitions (the provincial and the national),
occupying a secondary place in each of them. Given this
context, the party had to decide which to keep/where to
stay. Throughout the investigation, we set the costs and
benefits stemming from one coalition or the other, taking
into account the constraints imposed by the current electoral
rules. We conclude that the strategy actually opted for
by UCR (prioritizing the national agreement over the
provincial one) was not the best possible survival option.
