Can local and municipal history be a tool in the policy-making process? The history of La Cocha and Lules municipalities in Tucumán, Argentina.
Abstract
Although the history of public policy is an established subfield with previous development in Argentina, this article outlines a deeper exploration of the relationship between history and public policy. This research analyzes the possibilities and potential applications of the valuable tool of knowledge produced by historiography about local and municipal history, to be harnessed in different stages of the public policy process. For this analysis, we will look at two specific cases: the municipalities of La Cocha and Lules in the province of Tucumán, and the potential application of historical knowledge, of both places, in developing public policy regarding areas such as tourism, the economy, institutional functioning, and education.
