Mindset change: Martinez de Hoz’s narrative on anti inflationary satrategies (1976-1981)
Abstract
In this article we appeal to former ministry Martínez de Hoz’s memoirs and interviews to reconstruct his explanations regarding his anti-inflationary economic management. The first section is addressed to depict the objectives of Martínez de Hoz economic team and the economic policy measures implemented in order to fight inflation. The following section is devoted to the problems and difficulties found together with the changes subsequently adopted in both policies and strategy. In the third section we discuss the system of anticipated exchange rate modifications. A final section sums up the main conclusions.
