State and Sport: The relationship between municipal authorities and the clubs in the city of Buenos Aires 1900-1940
Abstract
This article explores the relationship between sport and the state focusing on the origins of the current development model of sports infrastructure. In this model, sports clubs play a role by far much more relevant than that of the local government. The analysis pays attention to Buenos Aires City during the period of 1900-1940, stressing on the 1925 city plan of the Comisión de Estética Edilicia, the first urban plan that envisioned the city in an integrated fashion. I also examine the sessions of the Honorable Concejo Deliberante de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, or city council, during the same period.
