Abstract

This article studies the changes in the Peronist party organization in accordance with Panebianco’s analytical framework. It focuses on the process of party- uilding, considered to be dependent from both the charismatic and plebiscitary components derived from Peron’s leadership and the involvement of CGT, Argentina’s national tradeunions confederation. The presence of these elements (charisma and an external organizations), added to the particular circumstances of the 1940s decade, moved Peron to build an eclectic party organization made up of three branches (the political, the trade-union’s, and the women’s branches), which enabled him to successfully countervail the unions’ political influence up to the 1955 coup d’état.
