Speculative communities. Living with uncertainty in a financialized world.
Abstract
Speculative Communities, by the Greek economist and sociologist Aris Komporozos Athanasiou, can be read as a reflection on the increase in “uncertainty in a financialized world”—as the subtitle states—a product of the metamorphoses summarized in the preceding paragraphs, and as a vivid portrayal of the effects generated by this increase. The book focuses on some of the effects of this metamorphosis on human subjectivity, on imaginaries, on social interactions, and on people's relationships with things. In particular, it examines individual and collective responses to the effect of these changes, and more specifically to the seemingly dizzying speed with which they unfold as a result of technological advancements.
