Nutritional habits in recipients of cash-transfer plan in the Municipality of Berisso.
Abstract
This paper presents the main findings of an interdisciplinary research/intervention project conducted in the Municipality of Berisso (Buenos Aires Province, Argentina), on people receiving social welfare cash transfer plans from the Municipal government. The aim of the project was to assess the impact of cash transfer plans on feeding habits. The study was based on a cross-sectional prospective cohort in three analytical stages (diagnosis, intervention, impact), through a combination and alternative use of quantitative and qualitative techniques. The findings gathered showed an income upgrading of recipients of cash transfers as well a meaningful contribution to dietary education. However, these changes did not translate into improvements in the food effectively consumed nor in the nutritional condition of the population
