Abstract

This article discusses the social assistance reform carried out by the libertarian far right, characterizing its scope, inves tigating the reasons behind its orientation, and identifying lines of continuity and rupture with respect to the neoliberal cycle (1989-2001) and the previous experience of right wing government (2015-2019). To achieve this objective, a historical narrative approach and a mixed methodological strategy are used, combining budgetary and benefit data with qualitative techniques of documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews. The study argues that the cur rent policy, although intended to accompany state transfor mation and structural adjustment, as it did in the neoliberal decade, has different characteristics, while incorporating ele ments typical of the radical right approach.
