Abstract

Multiple investigations sought to analyze the The religious zeal of the Council of Trento produced within the art of the Catholic world a triumphalist style seeking to show the Roman’s Faith superiority and the divine fa-vor on the Catholic princes. After the victory of Lepanto, the heads of the Holy League created an entire political and religious propaganda that enabled them to exploit the psy-chological effects of their triumph within the divided Christianity. The essay proposes to review this story, relating the artistic and ideologic aspect of the Catholic Reformation with the political context of the Republic of Venice, through the work of Paolo Caliari.
