Abstract

This publication compiles recent articles prepared by the research working group: “Transformations of university systems in Latin America: their adaptation to the trends of the new international scenario, globalization. Recent strategies and modalities of the virtualization of higher education”, UBACyT Program / Res. (CS) UBA Nª1739/18, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, directed by Dr. Alicia Iriarte, co-director Dr. Andrés Mombrú. From the unexpected global pandemic scenario that caused an unprecedented crisis in various fields since the beginning of 2020, and, given the challenge that higher education has been presented by unexpectedly converting to a virtual modality, we consider it necessary to evaluate and debate what are the challenges and consequences that universities have faced when forcibly adapting to a distance education modality, considering that most educational systems did not have teachers, systems and institutions prepared to rapidly implement this virtualization in teaching, thus presenting a complex challenge.
