Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission is original and unpublished, has not been previously published, and is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.
  • The submitted file is in Microsoft Word format.
  • DOIs or URLs have been provided for bibliographic references whenever available.
  • The text uses 12-point Times New Roman font and 1.5 line spacing; italics are used instead of underlining, except for URLs; and illustrations, figures, and tables are placed in the appropriate location within the text.
  • The manuscript complies with the bibliographic and stylistic requirements established in the Guidelines for Authors and follows APA Style, 7th edition, for citations and references.
  • When the manuscript is submitted to a peer-reviewed section, the file has been anonymized and all information that could identify its authors has been removed in order to ensure the double-blind peer-review process.
  • The title, abstract, and keywords are provided in both Spanish and English; the abstract does not exceed 150 words, and between 4 and 6 keywords are included in each language.
  • The details of each author —full name, institutional affiliation and country, email address, ORCID identifier, and brief academic biography— have been entered in the corresponding OJS metadata fields and do not appear in the anonymized manuscript file.
  • When the research involves individuals or groups, the manuscript reports that informed consent was obtained and, where applicable, that approval was granted by the relevant ethics committee or competent body.
  • A CRediT author contribution statement is attached as a file separate from the anonymized manuscript. The statement identifies each author’s contributions and has been approved by all authors. This requirement also applies to single-author manuscripts.
  • The manuscript includes a data availability statement describing the deposit status and access conditions, or explaining any restrictions or the absence of additional datasets. Datasets used in the work that have a separate record are cited in the text and in the reference list. Where double-blind peer review applies, information that could reveal authorship is communicated separately to the editorial team.

Author Guidelines

Perspectivas Metodológicas accepts original and unpublished manuscripts written in Spanish on epistemology, research methodology, and theoretical, methodological, and ethical issues in the social sciences and humanities. Manuscripts may not be simultaneously under consideration by another publication.

Submissions must be made exclusively through the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts must be submitted as Microsoft Word documents using 12-point Times New Roman font and 1.5 line spacing.

The main manuscript file must be fully anonymized. It must not contain authors’ names, institutional affiliations, acknowledgements, or any other information that could reveal authorship, since manuscripts submitted to peer-reviewed sections undergo a double-blind peer-review process.

Author information must be entered in the corresponding OJS metadata fields and must include: full name, institutional affiliation and country, email address, ORCID identifier, and a brief academic biography of up to 5 lines.

Author Contributions — CRediT

For new submissions, authors must provide a statement describing each named author’s contributions using the CRediT taxonomy (Contributor Roles Taxonomy). This requirement also applies to single-author manuscripts.

Only roles actually performed should be listed. One person may hold several roles, and the same role may be shared by several people. It is not necessary to use all fourteen categories. Role definitions are available on the official CRediT website.

In addition to meeting the authorship criteria established in the journal’s ethics policy, all authors must have actively participated in discussing the findings or developing the paper’s argument, reviewed and approved the final version, and take responsibility for their contributions. Assigning CRediT roles does not replace these requirements.

All authors must agree to the contribution statement. To preserve double-blind peer review, the statement must be provided to the editorial team in a file separate from the anonymized manuscript and must not be included among the materials sent to reviewers. In the version prepared for publication, it will appear at the end of the article, before the references.

Illustrative example

Ana Pérez: Conceptualization, Methodology, and Writing – original draft. Luis Gómez: Methodology, Formal analysis, and Writing – review & editing. Both authors participated in discussing the findings, reviewed and approved the final version, and take responsibility for their respective contributions.

Manuscripts must include a title, abstract, and between 4 and 6 keywords in both Spanish and English. Abstracts must not exceed 150 words.

Citations and references must follow APA Style, 7th edition. DOI or URL information must be provided for references whenever available.

Research Data: Management, Availability, and Citation

New submissions must include a section entitled “Data Availability” at the end of the manuscript, before the references. This section must identify the data and materials supporting the findings, the repository where they are deposited, their DOI or another persistent link, and the conditions for access and reuse.

Datasets generated or developed during the research must be deposited in an appropriate institutional, disciplinary, or general-purpose repository before the article is published. They must be accompanied by documentation explaining the files, their provenance, the variables or categories used, and the deposited version. If the deposit is still being prepared at submission, authors must state this and complete it before publication, unless restrictions are justified and assessed by the editorial team.

Where ethical, confidentiality, personal data protection, or third-party rights restrictions apply, the statement must explain the reasons and any possible access arrangements. Where the nature of the work means that there are no additional datasets suitable for deposit, this must be stated and justified. Reusing previously deposited data does not require depositing them again: their original record must be cited.

To preserve double-blind peer review, the manuscript version intended for reviewers must omit identifying details and links that could reveal authorship. This information must be communicated separately to the editorial team. Where available, anonymized copies or anonymous access links may be used for review. The version prepared for publication must include the complete statement.

Dataset Citation

Datasets used in the work that have a separate record must be cited in the text and included in the reference list, following APA Style, 7th edition.

General format:

Author or organization. (Year). Dataset title (identifier and version, where applicable) [Data set]. Repository. DOI or persistent URL.

Example:

O’Donohue, W. (2017). Content analysis of undergraduate psychology textbooks (ICPSR 36966; Version V1) [Data set]. ICPSR. https://doi.org/10.3886/ICPSR36966.v1

In-text citation: (O’Donohue, 2017).

Maximum Length

  • Articles: up to 6,000 words.
  • Perspectives: up to 3,000 words.
  • Research papers: up to 2,500 words.
  • Reviews: up to 2,000 words.

Submissions to the Articles, Perspectives, Research, and Dossier sections undergo double-blind peer review. Before being sent for external review, manuscripts undergo a preliminary editorial assessment to verify compliance with submission requirements, thematic relevance, and originality. The journal uses iThenticate for similarity checking.

When manuscripts derive from research involving individuals or groups, authors must report that informed consent was obtained and, where applicable, that approval was granted by the relevant ethics committee or competent body. The anonymity, confidentiality, and rights of participants must also be protected.

Authors must disclose all sources of funding and any potential conflicts of interest or explicitly state that none exist.

Perspectivas Metodológicas follows a continuous publication model, with its contents organized into one volume and one issue per year. Papers are added to the current issue as they successfully complete peer review and editorial production, without waiting for the annual issue to close. Each article has its own publication date and is available for reading and citation as soon as it is published online. All published content is freely accessible, without access charges or embargo periods.

The journal does not charge submission, editorial processing, peer-review, or publication fees.
