A Methodological Construction for the Study of the Well-being and Human Development in Adults who Dance in Medellín
Abstract
This article presents a methodological alternative for the study of well-being and human development in dance practices, specifically detailing the step-by-step design of the instrument applied in the ongoing research project Subjective Well-being and Human Development in Adults who Dance in Medellín. The study is grounded in the theories of well-being proposed by Edward F. Diener, Martín García, and Ruut Veenhover; in the theory of human development developed by Manfred Max-Neef and his collaborators; and in the concept of development as capability by Amartya Sen. The instrument was designed for the specific case of the study Subjective Well-being and Human Development in Adults who Dance in Medellín. The purpose is, on the one hand, to present the theoretical and methodological triangulation that was required among the analytical categories (dimensions, elements, and aspects of well-being; axiological and existential needs; and satisfiers) and Manfred Max-Neef’s "Matrix of Needs and Satisfiers"; and, on the other hand, to present the instrument itself.
