Abstract

Studies that characterize health research are usually based on scientific literature publications, rendering invisible research processes that do not succeed in being translated into outputs valued by current evaluation systems. This article analyzes research protocols submitted for ethical review through the digital registry platform “Plataforma de Registro Informatizado de Investigaciones en Salud” (PRIISA.BA). A database was constructed comprising a total of 1,449 protocols approved in the public sector during the 2019–2023 period. Results and discussions are presented regarding the institutions where the studies were conducted, sources of funding, and research topics. It is concluded that there is a marked disparity both between the private and public sectors and within the public sector itself. The main finding highlights the heterogeneity of approaches and topics investigated during the period under review. Finally, contributions are proposed to strengthen the digital registration of research and its subsequent analysis.
